Special Needs - Penny

Fun Write-Up: Meet Penny! Penny is an adorable, petite, 1-year-old Golden Retriever who will steal your heart with her bright eyes and happy tail wags. Weighing in at 42 pounds (with a goal to gain 10 more), she’s a bundle of love and energy in a small package. Penny is super affectionate, loves being around people, and picks up on new things quickly—she’s a star student! Life hasn’t always been easy for Penny. She’s bravely bounced back from five obstructions and three major surgeries, so she needs a family who will help keep her safe and healthy. To avoid any more scary mishaps, Penny rocks a muzzle when out and about (unless she’s tethered or playing with approved toys), and she’s always under watchful eyes. Don’t worry—this doesn’t slow her down! Penny loves her twice-daily 1-mile walks and is discovering that the world can be a fun and exciting place. She’s on a special three-meal-a-day plan to help her recover from surgery and reach her healthy weight. Tests have ruled out PICA, so now we’re focusing on easing her anxiety with Prozac, plenty of training, and lots of treats. Penny is smart, eager, and sometimes a little mischievous—she’ll test the rules if she thinks she can get away with it! She is crate-trained, though not a fan, and loves to sleep on the bed rather than for cuddles. Penny is looking for an experienced family (with older kids) ready to stick to her training plan and help her thrive. She’s currently being fostered in Pacifica, but we’ll happily drive her to wherever her perfect family is waiting. Bonus: she comes with training funds to help her get off to a strong start!

Special Needs Penny

Special Needs - Penny is a sweet 1-year-old Golden on the smaller side. Currently, she weighs 42 lbs. but needs to gain another 10 lbs. to reach her ideal weight. She is affectionate, people-oriented, and a fast learner. Penny has had 5 obstructions and three major surgeries, which have created challenges for her well-being. She is currently being muzzled 100% of the time unless tethered and under strict supervision. She is enjoying her 1-2 mile walks 2x daily and learning that the world is not so scary. Penny is currently being fed 3 x a day to help with her surgical recovery and much-needed weight gain. We have completed the additional testing to rule out PICA based on her need to consume foreign bodies. All tests came back negative, so the focus is now on behavior. We will treat the anxiety, weight gain, and structured training. We are looking for an experienced family with older kids to adhere to the required training structure. Penny is very smart and will test the guidelines and rules. Penny is being fostered in San Jose.
