Max

Max is a gorgeous, 4 yr old neutered, 81 pound, nutmeg boy. He turns heads and gets a lot of compliments when he is out and about! Max did not live with a dog previously, but he gets along fine with his adult foster golden brothers and friends’ goldens (male and female). He would do well as an only dog or as a second dog if the dog sibling primarily wants a companion rather than a 24/7 playmate. Max loves to go for walks and picks up the leash when you put his harness on – he is ready to go! He also loves to snuggle on the sofa for TV or reading time, and he may possibly want to sleep on your bed (ha!). Max is trying to lose a few more pounds – he was 85 and is now just over 81, and he should lose another 5ish pounds. His adopting family needs to be committed to keeping him at a lower weight because he has 2 slightly torn knee ligaments and a bit of hip arthritis. Just losing 4 pounds has made him more agile, and the surgeon said he does not know if Max will eventually need TPLO surgery. He cannot run as a primary form of exercise but can play and run around in the backyard – he’s not a big runner, in any event. He really enjoys the long walks we’ve been taking in the neighborhood. He’s pretty good on the leash, only pulls a little, and doesn’t react to other dogs while out walking. Max is 1/8 border collie (!) so he does get excited and can be mouthy, so some training on this would be helpful. We’re looking for a home with older kids since he loves kids and a family with dog experience in case he does need surgery in the future. Max is being fostered in Walnut Creek.
