Benito – Updated June 5

Benito has a fun, strong, and independent personality with a puppy-like playfulness. Benito is current on his vet care, neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. With his foster, he has learned basic commands such as sit and wait at mealtime and is starting to understand “stay.” He adorably sits up on his hind legs to ask for belly rubs. Benito is currently in a 4-week board-and-train in Antioch, where his trainer notes he is sweet, sensitive, gets along with other dogs, and enjoys the company of the many children in the home. He loves hugs and cuddling with his foster on the couch in the evenings. He enjoys playing with squeaky toys but sometimes tries to chew them apart, as some goldens do. He fetches balls and brings them back, and is learning to release the ball for more play. After settling in for 3-4 weeks, a few toys and Nu-Bones are left with him and the other dogs, with supervision nearby. He has a cute trot as he follows you around. At night, he sleeps soundly for 8+ hours in the bedroom with his foster, not crated. He has never had an accident indoors and will gently paw the sliding door to go out. Benito eats twice daily in the kitchen with the other dogs, always with the foster parent nearby and out of their view. Everyone usually finishes together, and there are no issues. The foster parent picks up Benito’s bowl after he eats, so others don’t check it. Feeding all the dogs at once has been easy. His board-and-train is focusing on leash walking, recall, drop it, and other commands. He rides well in the car, settling quickly. He is not fully crate-trained, but is improving. Benito came from a home with 5 hours of unsupervised backyard time daily, leading to minor but correctable habits. Benito can be left for 4 -6 hours, but we would like someone in the home during the day. After his board-and-train, Benito will be ready for adoption or foster-to-adopt. He’s best suited to an active family or to someone who works from home, walks him daily, and continues his training. He’s good with kids. If you are looking for a wonderful male golden , he could be your boy. Benito is fostered in Antioch.
